This is a handout from Dr. Peg Dawson, author of the Smart but Scattered series, and an expert on Executive Functioning Skills.
To use this document:
- Ask your child what is difficult about getting work done. The more you can use their own words as a starting point, the more likely they will be engaged in a solution.
- If they are able to tell you, match their difficulties with the Obstacle column on this handout. If they don’t know, look at the Obstacle column together and see what resonates.
- Look at the Strategy column and identify any they’d like to try.
- Run an experiment! Try it out for a week and see what happens. If it doesn’t work, tweak it and try again.
I hope you find this helpful!
